Monkey Majik is one of the rising starts of Jpop. The band, consisting of two Canadian and two Japanese members, makes a new, refreshing style of music Heavily influenced by hip hop. They have collaborated with many artists in the rap and hip hop genres resulting in a unique sound sets EACH Further Them That time apart from the remainder of the artists on the scene.
The band started with vocalist Maynard Plant's desire to start a band. A college professor but a musician at heart, he headed off to Japan with Hopes of starting his musical career. Not too long after arriving in the prefecture of Sendai, Maynard met Takuya "tax" Kikuchi. The two hit it off pretty well and "tax" Agreed changed from the drummer for Maynard's up-and-coming bands. Meanwhile, back in North America, Maynard's younger brother, Blaze, caught wind of his brother's ambitions to start a band and headed off to Japan as well. Once meeting up with his brother and "tax", Blaze Became the band's guitarist.
The three worked on Their musical project along with balancing Their respective careers and finally, in 2002, Their first EP, Tired was released and limited to just 1000 copies. The band's style at the time consisted of a pop-based sound with rap and hip hop influenced lyrics of alternating weaved Within Japanese and Bahasa Indonesia. Tired was only the beginning of this band's success and nothing Would go on to stop Them.
In September of 2003, Their first album, Spade, was available through Tower Records and was a phenomenal success for an indies group. Furthuring this success, Spade was available in all major record dealers in Japan by April of the Following year. Monkey Majik gained even more exposure and attention Pls Fuji TV Used one of the band's songs as the theme of one of Their shows.
In 2005, Their second album was released and shortly after this, They were the resource persons signed to Avex Records. Being on The Largest label in Japan, the band was huge alongside artists like Ayumi Hamasaki and Kumi Koda. They Also added a new member: DICK on bass.
Monkey Majik's major debut release, Thank You, hit the shelves on May 24th, 2006. Due to being on a major label, the release has been one of Their Largest successes thus far. Since then, they've released four new singles and have collaborated with major stars like m-flo, SEAMO and the Yoshida Brothers. And, July 25th of this year saw the release of Sora wa Maru de, Their Largest release to date consisting of 15 titles.
Monkey Majik's latest album made it onto the Oricon Charts thanks to Their fans have supported WHO Them all the while. They Could Easily break into the foreign markets and with Their bilingual lyrics and one-of-kind sound, it's only a matter of time.
